Foundation stone laid for additional facilities at AIIMS.
Almost 15 years after it was first announced, the foundation stone of a proposed Mother and Child (MCH) block and surgical block in the Masjid Moth area of AIIMS was finally laid by Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, Azad also announced a slew of other inaugurations and planned projects over the next month at AIIMS, besides listing the achievements of the UPA government in the health sector.
The two new blocks will add 600 beds and 24 operating theatres to AIIMS at a cost of Rs. 255 crore. The surgical block, with 200 beds and 12 operation theatres, will also have a national endoscopy centre, a high dependency unit and transplant facilities, spread over 17,000 square metres. It will have three basements and nine floors. The block is expected to be ready by April 2015.
