Government Propels Rs. 76,000-Crore Vadhavan Port Project into High Gear
The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is intensifying efforts to propel forward the ambitious Vadhavan Port project, which had encountered a two-year delay due to environmental concerns. The project, now back on track, is undergoing expedited planning, consultations, and approval processes.
A comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been meticulously prepared for the public-private partnership (PPP) venture, estimating the project's cost at approximately Rs. 76,000 crore. Notably, this reflects an Rs. 11,000-crore increase from the initial in-principle approval granted by the Union Cabinet in 2020.
The Vadhavan Port project is strategically significant, aiming to enhance India's port and shipping infrastructure. The recent push by the ministry underscores the government's commitment to overcoming hurdles and advancing key infrastructure initiatives for economic growth.
