Handset maker Lava plans R&D facility.
Setting up of a research and development centre in Hyderabad figures in the investment and expansion plans of mobile phone maker Lava International Ltd.
Discussions with Telangana government in this regard were under way and the proposed centre is part of the Rs. 200 crore investment Lava proposes to make on R&D facilities in the next 2-3 years, senior vice-president Sandeep Dongre told presspersons here on Thursday.
The company has an R&D centre in Bengaluru employing 400 people, he said, adding that Lava had recently announced plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Tirupati to make 5 million phones a month. Besides selling in India, Lava phones are exported to Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan and Russia. The company planned to enter Africa, he said.
