Highway Projects Run into Rough Weather.

The plan of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for upgradation of the NH-143 from Birmitrapur to Barkote along with construction of second Brahmani bridge at Rourkela has run into rough weather again. The NHAI concessionaire Gammon Infrastructure Projects Ltd. recently backed out from the project citing financial constraint.

NHAI sources said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be updated and a fresh traffic survey done before taking further action.

NHAI Project Director PL Padhi said the contract agreement with Gammon was recently terminated as the latter expressed financial constraint in carrying on with the project.

He said the DPR would be shortly updated along with a fresh traffic survey and a new tender floated. He exuded confidence that besides the NH-143 and NH-520
