"Hindalco Invests ₹800 Crores in New Facility for Manufacturing Electric Vehicle Battery Foils"
Hindalco Industries, a key player in the Aditya Birla Group, has announced a substantial investment of ₹800 crores in the establishment of a cutting-edge plant near Sambalpur in Odisha. The plant will focus on the production of 25,000 tonnes of high-quality aluminum foil, a crucial component for lithium-ion and sodium-ion cells, especially in the context of electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
Situated adjacent to a 25 MW solar power facility, the plant will also have access to additional solar energy through a 400 KV national grid connection. Anticipated to be operational by July 2025, the new facility will complement Hindalco's existing plant in Mouda, Maharashtra.
The strategic move aligns with Hindalco's vision to meet the escalating demand for battery-grade aluminum foil, projected to surge to 40,000 tonnes by 2030. This surge is primarily attributed to the burgeoning growth of gigafactories engaged in advanced cell manufacturing.
Noteworthy is the company's forward-thinking approach, underscored by its plans to scale up production capacity for high-quality aluminum foil, a critical component in rechargeable batteries. This initiative is in response to the rapidly expanding market for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems, positioning Hindalco at the forefront of the evolving landscape.
