Hindustan Zinc to Double Metal Production to 2 MTPA in Five Years, Says Chairperson.
Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc aims to double its metal production capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) within the next five years, Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar stated. The company’s current capacity stands at 1.1 MTPA.
“With India’s expanding steel capacity and strong infrastructure focus, Hindustan Zinc is on track to achieve 2 MTPA by 2030, as zinc plays a crucial role in steel galvanization,” Hebbar wrote in a letter to shareholders.
The company is also expanding into critical minerals and has been declared the preferred bidder for multiple mining blocks across India. Its roaster and fertilizer plant projects are progressing as planned, strengthening its future growth pipeline.
Digital-First Operations
Hindustan Zinc’s record production growth is backed by advanced automation and digitalization. The company has integrated tele-remote operations for underground mining and deployed robotics in metal production to minimize human intervention. Artificial intelligence-driven advancements in ore extraction, processing, and production have further boosted efficiency.
Over the past five years, the company’s metal production has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4%, while silver production has expanded by 5%.
Strong Financial Performance
For the quarter ending December 31, 2024, Hindustan Zinc reported a 32% increase in consolidated net profit at ₹2,678 crore, compared to ₹2,028 crore in the year-ago period.
