IOC inaugurates piped natural gas project in Salem.

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) inaugurated a domestic piped natural gas (PNG) project in Salem recently. Director (pipelines) D S Nanaware inaugurated the project.

Addressing media persons, Nanaware said IOC plans to supply the PNG to 3.35 lakh houses and has allocated 1,300 crore for the same. The IOC’s PNG plant set up on the Salem Steel Plant premises will supply PNG to individual houses through pipelines.

PNG was supplied to 50 houses on the day of the inauguration. Nanaware said 450 individual houses will further be given access to PNG in the first phase.

The project will also be extended to Jageer Ammapalayam, Tiruvagoundanur and other parts of the district at the earliest. IOC officials, executive directors SK Jha and Shailesh Tiwari and several others participated in the inauguration.

Besides the pipeline, PNG is also being supplied through 158 fuel stations in the district and also distributed to vehicles through the fuel bunk set up on the steel plant’s premises.
