"Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha Advocates Renaming Hubballi Airport After Basaveshwara"

Members of the Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha have recently adopted a resolution calling for the renaming of Hubballi Airport in honor of Sri Basaveshwara, a revered 12th-century reformer saint. This significant proposal was presented during a meeting held in Hubballi, where M.V. Gongadashetty, the President of the Dharwad district unit of the Mahasabha, introduced the motion. To the unanimous approval of its members, the resolution was passed.

The Mahasabha's agenda also encompasses a series of additional requests. These include the renaming of a metro station in Bengaluru to pay homage to the reformer, the reinstallation of his statue at Basaveshwara Park in Hubballi, and a call for stern action against individuals responsible for sending threatening letters to Sri Nijagunanda Swami, another prominent figure in the Lingayat community.

The meeting was not limited to these proposals; it also featured discussions regarding the centenary celebration of F.G. Halakatti. Halakatti played a pivotal role in creating the first printed edition of the Vachanas in the early 20th century, an essential milestone in preserving and propagating the wisdom of Lingayat saints.
