Jayalalithaa announces new road projects.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa recently announced road projects including Rs. 150 crore scheme to lay roads till the margins in expanded Chennai Corporation areas and to construct wide pavements along the g irivalam path in Tiruvannamalai.

She told the Assembly that the four-lane road between Vandalur and Orgadam would be converted into six lanes and the work would cover 20-km including Padappai outer ring road. The project cost is Rs. 200 crore. Works are already on for converting the roads between Singaperumalkoil and Sriperumpudur.

A highway bridge would come up at Vandalur-Kelambakkam-Mampakkam junction to ease the traffic congestion. The cost has been estimated at Rs. 60 crore. Ms. Jayalalithaa said the right inner ring road near Perambur-Red Hills junction would be laid at a cost of Rs. 35 crore. At Tiruvannamalai, the girivalam path would be widened between 7 to 10 meters. The temple town will get drainage facilities and rest rooms for devotees.

The Chief Minister also announced Rs. 665.36 crore projects to construct rail over-bridge and underpass replacing railway gates in Salem, Vellore, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Madurai, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts.
