Karnataka Plans ‘Karnataka Mandapam’ as Bengaluru Eyes Major Tourism Infrastructure Push

Bengaluru, September 29, 2026: Karnataka is preparing a fresh push in tourism and urban infrastructure, with the state government considering a major “Karnataka Mandapam” convention and exhibition centre in Bengaluru, modelled on New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam.

The government is examining Jakkur, the Mysuru Lamps premises and NGEF land as possible locations for the proposed facility. Connectivity, accessibility and availability of adequate land are expected to play an important role in selecting the final site.

The proposed Karnataka Mandapam is expected to strengthen Bengaluru’s ability to host large conventions, exhibitions, business events, cultural programmes and international gatherings. The government has not yet disclosed the estimated investment or final location for the project.

Alongside the Bengaluru proposal, the state has approved the Coastal Malnad Karnataka Tourism Policy 2026, aimed at attracting new tourism investments across Karnataka’s coastal and Malnad regions. Qualifying tourism projects will receive industry and infrastructure status, which is expected to encourage greater private-sector participation and facilitate development.

The policy is also expected to support investments in hotels, resorts, tourism facilities and related infrastructure, while promoting sustainable development.

Karnataka is additionally pursuing a proposed sky-deck project through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The investment amount and location are yet to be finalised.

Together, these initiatives signal Karnataka’s efforts to attract private investment and strengthen tourism, hospitality, convention and urban infrastructure across the state.
