KMRL to be entrusted with mobility hub development.
After being in the cold storage for years, the proposal for the long-delayed second phase development of the Vyttila Mobility Hub seems to have received a fresh impetus with the governing body meeting of the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS) finally deciding to entrust Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) with the execution of the project.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his chamber on February 1 also decided to ask KMRL to draw up a detailed project report (DPR) including the crucial investment model.
The decision, however, remains yet to be conveyed to KMRL.
The meeting was attended by Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, the Chief Secretary, District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla and representatives of VMHS. The meeting also threw up a broad set of proposals.
“It was decided that commercial utilisation of space will be kept to minimum adequate enough to cover the cost. The idea is to provide maximum parking space, bus bays, green space, and passenger amenities,” said Mr. Safirulla. The project seems to have received a timely revival as the State Budget proposed to set up a mobility hub in Kozhikode along the lines of the one at Vyttila.
