Kottayam General Hospital to get facelift.
The Kottayam District General Hospital is set to get a major facelift with the authorities planning to construct a ten-storey building having modern facilities.
The building, coming up at a cost of Rs. 219.9 crore, will have a total built-up area of 3.3 lakh sq.ft and house as many as 376 beds, in addition to 12 operation theatres and 20 out-patient units.
As per the plan, the ground, lower and first floor comprises trauma care units and 20 out-patients units while the next three floors will house in-patient wards and a gynaecology wing.
The operation theatres will be based in the sixth floor while the seventh floor will house modern laboratory and related facilities.
The structure will have a centralised medical gas pipeline system for ventilation and various clinical applications.
Upon commissioning, the hospital will also offer online services, including the e-health programme for the public.
A separate lift has been envisaged for transporting the waste, besides the mechanisms for waste collection, segregation and treatment.
The authorities are looking to complete works worth Rs. 174.4 crore in the first phase.
A blueprint of the proposed project and the plan has been submitted to the State government for its approval, official sources said. According to the hospital authority, the objective of constructing a new building was to ease the congestion and do away with discomfort for patients.
The modern building with all the latest facilities would be energy-efficient and cater to the needs of physically-challenged persons, sources said.
On completion, it will be among the largest outpatient services in the government sector in the State.
