"L&T Initiates Maiden Steam Generator for PHWR Program"

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has reached a significant milestone by flagging off the inaugural steam generator (SG) for the 10 X 700 MWe PHWR Fleet Programme, developed entirely in India.

Completing the development of the SG a remarkable 12 months ahead of contractual delivery, L&T underscores its commitment to advancing nuclear technology in the country. The steam generator, a vital component, acts as a heat exchanger, converting water into steam using heat generated within the nuclear reactor core. These generators are pivotal elements supplied to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).

The flag-off ceremony unfolded at L&T's AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex located in Hazira, Gujarat, marking a momentous occasion in the nation's nuclear energy journey.

Expressing pride in this achievement, L&T Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves reiterated their dedication to leading industry standards. Anil V Parab, Whole-time Director & Senior Executive Vice President, emphasized L&T's alignment with India's ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Additionally, Parab highlighted L&T's synergy with NPCIL's mission to rapidly expand India's nuclear power capacity to 22,480 MWe by 2032, demonstrating a remarkable threefold increase in less than a decade.
