The Chief Minister of Maharashtra approved Rs. 4,240 crore FY 2014-15 Budget for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The budget has prioritised metro rail, mono rail and flyovers for the Mumbai metropolitan region.
The MMRDA has earmarked Rs. 634 crore for the metrorail projects, which include Rs 500 crore for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro corridor. Since the Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd corridor ran into environmental trouble therefore Rs. 4 crore have been sanctioned for carrying out various studies afresh. Now the corridor would be fully underground.
The MMRDA has also budgeted Rs. 400 crore for the second phase of mono rail project from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk in South Mumbai. The work on the second phase is in full swing and is expected to be completed next year.
