"Mumbai: Two Stations Dropped from Metro-4 Plan Due to Space Constraints and Cutbacks"

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has made adjustments to the Metro-4 corridor (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane) plan, removing two stations, Suman Nagar and Amar Mahal, due to space constraints and cost-cutting measures.
The decision to exclude National College station from the Metro-2B (DN Nagar-Mandale) plan had been made earlier by the MMRDA.
Sources revealed that the exclusion of Amar Mahal station was technically necessary, as the presence of multiple flyovers and high-tension wire towers left insufficient space for construction. The Metro-4 corridor, starting at Bhakti Park, now covers the Eastern Express Highway until Amar Mahal, then proceeds to the 90ft road via Garodia Nagar before entering LBS Road. Commuters from the Amar Mahal area will now have to use Garodia Nagar station, situated 1km away. The station preceding Amar Mahal, Siddharth Colony on Eastern Express Highway, remains part of the plan.
Suman Nagar station, located at the junction of Sion-Trombay Road and Eastern Express Highway (EEH), was removed from the plan to reduce costs. It is reported that Siddharth Colony station, originally scheduled after Suman Nagar station, will be strategically designed to integrate with Metro-2B's EEH station.
With the removal of Suman Nagar and Amar Mahal stations, the total number of stations on the Metro-4 route has decreased to 30, with each station planned at a distance of 1km. The decision was approved during a meeting of MMRDA officials chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday.
This adjustment in the Metro-4 plan echoes previous modifications made by the planning authority, such as the removal of LTT Kurla station and MMRDA station in BKC from the Metro-2B plan. The MMRDA station, planned at the junction of BKC road and MMRDA junction, was removed to avoid overlap with the Kalanagar flyover's ramp. The exclusion of LTT station was due to height issues, as it would have been positioned adjacent to the SCLR bridge.
