Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, addressing the occasion via video conference, remarked, "India has embarked on a rapid trajectory in solar power generation, and to further propel this mission, foundation stones have been laid for various solar power projects in Rajasthan today. These projects will not only provide green and affordable power to the region but also create significant employment opportunities for the youth."
Key highlights of the 300 MW NLC Barsingsar Solar Power Project include:
Strategically located near the existing Barsingsar Thermal Power Station, the project benefits from advantages in power evacuation through the existing network and utilization of common infrastructure facilities.
NLC India Limited has inked a Power Usage Agreement for the entire 300 MW capacity at a tariff of Rs. 2.52/unit with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power supply.
Employing indigenous domestic solar modules of high-efficiency bifacial type aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' initiative, fostering self-reliance in the renewable energy sector.
Over its anticipated lifespan of 25 years, the project is projected to generate approximately 18.75 billion units of green energy and reduce around 18 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, significantly contributing to environmental sustainability.
During the construction phase, the project is expected to create job opportunities for nearly 600 personnel, with over 100 individuals employed during the operation and maintenance phase, promoting economic growth and skill development in the region.
Awarded to Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis through a competitive bidding process, the project ensures adherence to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules from domestic suppliers, the project aligns with India's progress towards sustainable energy solutions. The green power generated will assist Rajasthan in meeting its Renewable Purchase Obligation and propel India towards its Net Zero status, in line with global efforts to combat climate change.
The commencement of construction activities through the laying of the foundation stone underscores the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, supported by Hon'ble Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi, and seamless cooperation from the Ministry of Coal and the Ministry of Power, New & Renewable Energy.
