"NTPC Seeks Public Approval for Expansion of Sipat Project in Chhattisgarh"

NTPC Limited is set to enhance the capacity of its Sipat Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district by adding 800 megawatts (MW). The Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) recently conducted a public hearing for NTPC Sipat Stage III, a project utilizing Ultra Super Critical Technology.

During the public hearing held in the project-affected village, attendees, including local representatives, stakeholders, and officials, shared their opinions on granting permission for the expansion. Pankaj Sharma, DGM (EMG), highlighted the features of Stage III, emphasizing its environment-friendly aspect as it consumes less coal compared to conventional units.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore, does not require additional land or water allocation and receives water from the Hasdeo River. Attendees at the hearing raised questions about NTPC Sipat's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, urging the management to allocate a higher welfare budget for the development of surrounding villages.

Upon completion, the total capacity of NTPC Sipat Power Station will increase to 3,780 MW, reinforcing its status as the first thermal power station in the country built with advanced ultra-supercritical technology. Currently, the station generates 2,980 MW through five units established under Stages I & II.

Company officials stated that NTPC-Sipat is dedicated to both the development of the country and the state, benefiting Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Emphasizing NTPC's commitment to business excellence and social responsibility, they noted that the successful public hearing reaffirms the company's dedication to powering India's growth responsibly.
