NTPC to set up 50-MW LNG project in Andaman.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a 50-MW LNG-based power project at Hope Town, South Andaman.

The power plant will be established by NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited.

Set up at a cost of Rs. 387.80 crore, the plant will take approximately 18 months to become operational, an NTPC statement said.

The plant shall be operational through Dual Fuel — LNG or HSD to be sourced from Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) and High Speed Diesel (HSD) to be sourced from Indian Oil Corporations (IOCL) existing depot at Andaman and Nicobar as per requirement, the statement added.

NTPC has already set up a 5-MW solar PV at Andaman & Nicobar and is in the process of establishing another 25-MW solar PV project with a battery back-up.
