One Town Roads to be Widened.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) would initiate road widening works in the One Town area. The master plan, prepared by VUDA, will widen the road to 100 feet to ease traffic from Jagadamba Junction to the Victoria statue.

GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar inspected the proposed area for widening on Tuesday. He said that the main intention of the road extension works was to ease traffic congestion. The commissioner said that they would consult and convene a meeting of the owners, shopkeepers, tenants and several others residing in the area.

“We will have a meeting and elicit suggestions from all stakeholders over the works,” said Pravin. The stretch includes Kurupam market, Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple and some old structures. However, Pravin told Express that none of the heritage sites or monuments would be disturbed and the plan factored in the heritage things.

Hundreds of shops, including houses, would go if the extension works start, and GVMC chief city planner D Venkata Ratnam was instructed to prepare the details of structural compensation.
