Orissa to sign MoUs with 10 IPPs soon
Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government is all set to sign MoUs with 10 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) soon. The 10 new companies proposed to generate nearly 11,720 MW of thermal power at an investment of over Rs 45,000 crore.
'We will soon sign MoUs with 10 other IPPs,'' Energy Secretary, Mr P K Jena said, adding the 13 IPPs had signed MoUs with the state government in 2006.
The state government, which had already signed MoUs with 13 IPPs to generate as much as 17,245 MW of thermal power at an investment of Rs 70,000 crore, had meanwhile cleared proposal of 10 others.
The latest clearance of proposals came at yesterday's meeting of High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA). Altogether, the state will have at least 23 IPPs with generation capacity of 28,965 MWT with investment of about Rs 1,15,000 crore in private sector, besides two more ultra mega power projects of 3,200 MW capacity each at an investment of Rs 25,000 crore by NTPC, sources said.
Apart from proposed thermal power stations, sources said, plans were also afoot to set up a nuclear power generation unit in the state, while National Hydro-Power Corporation (NHPC) in collaboration with the Orissa Hydro-Power Corporation has also propos ed to establish a hydro-power station at Sindhol.
