Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of development projects in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, encompassing sectors such as education, railways, aviation, and roads, with a total investment exceeding Rs. 32,000 crore.
The launch event, held in Jammu, also saw the unveiling or laying of foundation stones for projects valued at Rs. 13,500 crore across the nation. These projects include the establishment of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), and central universities.
During the event, PM Modi distributed appointment letters to approximately 1,500 newly recruited government employees of Jammu and Kashmir and engaged with beneficiaries of various schemes under the 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Jammu' initiative.
Among the notable railway projects inaugurated by PM Modi is the railway line between Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan spanning 48 km, along with the electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section covering 185.66 km. He also flagged off the first electric train in the Valley and initiated the train service between Sangaldan and Baramulla stations.
The commissioning of the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section, featuring the innovative ballast less track (BLT) technology, is expected to enhance passenger comfort. Additionally, the railway projects aim to enhance connectivity, promote environmental sustainability, and stimulate economic growth in the region.
PM Modi also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various projects across the country, including permanent campuses for IITs, IIITDM Kancheepuram, Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), and campuses of Central Sanskrit University. Furthermore, he inaugurated three new IIMs and unveiled new buildings for Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
To enhance healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. This institute, established under the 'Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana', boasts modern facilities and a comprehensive range of medical services.
Among other projects, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a new terminal building at the Jammu airport, aimed at accommodating around 2,000 passengers during peak hours. Additionally, he initiated road projects including segments of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway and the Srinagar Ring road, along with the development of the CUF petroleum depot at Jammu.
