Power Finance Corporation Pledges ₹25,000 Crore for Gujarat's Power Initiatives

State-owned Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has taken a significant stride in supporting Gujarat's power sector by entering into an initial agreement with the state government. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed on January 3, 2024, as announced in a statement by PFC recently.

The MoU signing ceremony, held in Gandhinagar, witnessed the participation of Parminder Chopra, CMD of PFC, Jai Prakash Shivhare, MD (GUVNL), and Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to provide comprehensive financial support for the state's generation, transmission, and distribution projects. The MoU represents a pivotal move towards reinforcing various projects led by key entities such as Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO), Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL), Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL), Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), and Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (UGVCL).

This partnership is poised to facilitate long-term debt and address critical funding needs essential for the successful execution of diverse projects in the power sector.

Notably, the financial commitment outlined in the MoU is an impressive ₹25,000 crore, dedicated to powering various projects across Gujarat. PFC's substantial investment underscores its unwavering commitment to fortifying the power infrastructure in the region and supporting the state's ambitious initiatives in the power sector.

Beyond the tangible impact on power infrastructure expansion, the collaboration is anticipated to contribute to employment generation, with the potential to create up to 10,000 jobs in Gujarat. This multifaceted agreement reflects PFC's proactive role in fostering sustainable growth and development in the power sector of the state.
