"Qualcomm Invests ₹177 Crore in Launching Chennai Design Centre"

Qualcomm Inc., a leading US-based developer of wireless technologies, officially inaugurated its new design centre in Chennai on Thursday. The inauguration ceremony was jointly presided over by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & IT, and Cristiano Amon, President & CEO of Qualcomm Inc. The establishment of this centre represents a significant investment of ₹177.27 crore.

The newly established design centre will specialize in wireless connectivity solutions, with a particular focus on innovations complementing WiFi technologies. Additionally, it will actively contribute to Qualcomm's global research and development initiatives in 5G Cellular technology, reaffirming the company's commitment to maintaining a leading position in the wireless communications industry.

The Chennai Design Centre is expected to create employment opportunities for up to 1,600 skilled technology professionals, further enhancing India's dynamic workforce. This investment is anticipated to foster semiconductor design activities, aligning with the government's 'Make in India' initiative and facilitating the growth of a robust indigenous design ecosystem, as per a company release.

Speaking to reporters, Cristiano Amon emphasized the critical role of the centre in advancing Qualcomm's wireless products, including WiFi technologies. He highlighted India's well-established IT industry and growth-oriented policy environment, supported by both central and state governments, which have nurtured a conducive ecosystem for technological talent to thrive. Qualcomm looks forward to capitalizing on the growth opportunities presented by India.
