Rajasthan thermal plant enters final phase of completion

Jaipur: The construction work for the second unit of the Giral lignite thermal power plant in Rajasthan has entered the final phase. The 125-MW unit is likely to start power production by September end this year.

Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Chairman and Managing Director S.K. Kalla visited the construction site over the weekend to review the progress of work and met the representatives of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Tata Projects Limited involved in the job.

Mr. Kalla said 75 per cent of the work had been completed and arrangements made for lighting up the boiler next month after its successful hydraulic test. The work on turbine and generator has also registered a significant progress.

BHEL construction manager A.K. Zafrani told Mr. Kalla that the lignite and lime handling plant, cooling tower, reservoir, switchgear and the control room were being installed on schedule.
