Reliance Infra Enters Aviation Sector with ₹5,000 Cr Aircraft Modernization Bet.

Reliance Infrastructure is poised to significantly expand its presence in the defense sector, with a strategic focus on aircraft upgrade programs. The company is reportedly eyeing a substantial opportunity valued at ₹5,000 crore over the next seven to ten years, sources close to the development indicate.

This move positions Reliance Infrastructure as a pioneering force in India's private sector. It will be the first non-original equipment manufacturer (OEM) private entity to independently undertake comprehensive aircraft upgrade programs – a domain historically monopolized by public sector units and OEMs.

The company has already demonstrated its capabilities in this niche. According to a company source, Reliance Infrastructure has successfully upgraded 55 Dornier-228 aircraft. This achievement was accomplished under a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and in collaboration with US-based avionics firm Genesys, marking a significant milestone for their defense vertical.
