Royal Philips has taken a significant stride in bolstering its presence in India by inaugurating a new research and development (R&D) facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The Healthcare Innovation Centre's (HIC) R&D facility, celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, is slated to commence operations within two years. In its initial phase, the facility is set to accommodate 1,900 employees, marking a pivotal milestone for the company's expansion efforts.
The upcoming facility, nestled within a sprawling 10-acre plot in MIDC, Chinchwad, will boast approximately 300,000 square feet of office space, according to the company. It will serve as a hub for R&D teams specializing in Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Monitoring, Sleep, and Respiratory businesses. By consolidating these teams under one roof, Philips aims to leverage synergies, enhance operational efficiency, and foster knowledge sharing across various business verticals.
Moreover, the new center is designed to prioritize sustainability initiatives, with provisions for Green Power, electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, and promotion of bicycle commuting, as highlighted in the company's statement.
With a workforce collectively exceeding 9,000 employees, including the HIC Pune, Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, Global Business Services in Chennai, and the commercial team headquartered in Gurgaon, Philips' India operations are poised for substantial growth.
Bert van Meurs, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Leader of Image Guided Therapy, and Chief Business Leader of Precision Diagnosis (ad interim), underscored the Pune facility's capacity to address the diverse needs of both Indian and global markets. Additionally, Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of Healthcare Innovation Center, Pune, emphasized the center's role in driving innovation and fostering collaboration with healthcare providers to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
The inauguration of the new R&D center in Pune signifies Philips' commitment to advancing healthcare technology and catering to the evolving needs of patients and healthcare professionals, both locally and globally.
