Rs. 4 Cr Grant for IITBBS Project.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has sanctioned a grant of Rupees. four crore to Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IITBBS) for a project on 'novel energy material cenema' to be executed by the institute's Centre of Excellence.

The proposal for the project, submitted by IITBBS to MHRD about four months back, was approved by the Ministry last week. IITBBS is reportedly one of the first among the new IITs which was provided grants for setting up the Centre of Excellence. The project will be headed by its Physics Department head Saroj Nayak.

Under the project, the institute will work on developing a new prototype based on new materials from which energy can be generated. IITBBS Registrar BK Ray said the main objective of the project is to develop a viable model based on energy materials, which can be adopted and commercialised for consumption at market level. Citing an example of the super-capacitors currently available in the market, Ray said they aim to create similar, yet better innovations.

US-based company Applied Materials and Rice University are the international partners of IITBBS for the project. Indian Institute of Physics (IIP) and Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) are partners for the project. Exchange programmes will be organised for the students and professors collaborating for the project. It is expected to be completed within a year.
