SDMC to set up solar power plant in Ferozpur.

Using land that had been lying vacant for years, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Friday signed an MoU with PTC India Limited, a private-public-partnership firm dealing in power trading, to set up a 2.5 MW solar power plant on its land in Ferozpur village.

The SDMC owns 9.42 acre of land in the village. It was meant to be used for a hot-mix plant, SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel said.

The SDMC said the plant would generate revenue from rent and sale of power. Mr. Goel said the project would give a boost to the Centre’s push towards clean energy.

The SDMC and PTC will each invest about ₹1.5 crore each, with the rest of the estimated ₹11.87 crore cost being paid by a special purpose vehicle. The solar power plant will work for 25 years, giving the SDMC ₹7.27 lakh per year in rent alone.

Mr. Goel added that the power could be sold to the Delhi Metro and malls in Faridabad.

The MoU was signed by SDMC Chief Engineer (Electrical) Firoz Ahmed and PTC India director Ajit Kumar, with SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma, Standing Committee chairperson Shailender Singh and Leader of House Subhash Arya attending the event.
