South Delhi Corporation scraps Rs. 30 crore Defence Colony parking project.

Almost two years after sanctioning a multilevel parking-cum-commercial project at Defence Colony, the South Delhi Corporation has decided to scrap the project.

The decision was taken after the private concessionaire asked the corporation to refund concession fee and bank guarantee worth Rs. 30.24 crore. The BJP-led South Corporation cites technical issues behind the decision, but Congress says it is a case of corruption and plans to take up the matter with lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung.

'We had tendered the project long back. But work couldn't start due to technical issues and stiff resistance from the resident welfare association. The concessionaire wants the money back as there is no movement on the project. For now, the project is over. We will have to review the parking requirement of the area once again,' said Satish Upadhyay, chairman, standing committee, South Corporation.
