State Signs Contract for DPR on Metro.

The Odisha State Government recently signed an agreement for preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for introducing metro rail services between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The agreement was signed between Secundarabad-based Balaji Railroad System Limited (BARSYL) and Housing and Urban Development Department in the presence of HUD Minister Pushpendra Singhdeo.

The Urban Development Ministry is encouraging cities with more than two million population to plan and implement high capacity and high speed metro rail system. This requires studies on traffic and transportation, preparation of complete mobility plans, integration of land use and transportation planning in the cities.

BARSYL will prepare DPR of the mass rapid transit system covering 30 kilometres between the two cities with a consultancy fee of Rs 2.52 crore. The Centre and State Governments will share 50 per cent each of the project cost.

The broad scope of work for the agency covers tasks like preparation of a DPR covering traffic demand assessment and system selection and including mobility analysis, alignment study, multimodal land use integration plan, land acquisition details, transit oriented development, cost estimation and funding pattern alternatives.
