Suzuki and Toyota to Launch Jointly Developed Electric SUV Worldwide by 2025.

Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation announced recently plans to deepen their collaboration with the launch of a battery-electric SUV, marking the first fully electric vehicle in their ongoing partnership. Developed by Suzuki, the new model will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat starting in spring 2025.

Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Japan, expressed enthusiasm for the development, noting, “While continuing to be competitors, we will deepen our collaborations toward solving social issues, including the realization of a carbon-neutral society.”

The companies have been in partnership since 2016, initially spearheaded by Suzuki’s then-Chairman Osamu Suzuki and Toyota’s then-President Akio Toyoda. Their collaborative efforts have resulted in shared models across Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, covering a range of vehicle production, mutual supply, and the spread of electrified vehicles.

This new SUV, designed specifically as a BEV, will offer agile performance, a spacious interior, and a 4WD option for enhanced driving capability on rough terrain. The BEV unit and platform are the product of combined efforts from Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Corporation, leveraging the strengths of each company.

Toyota’s President Koji Sato said the project will provide a new milestone in the companies' joint electrification strategy, allowing them to meet diverse consumer needs worldwide. “This will allow us to deliver various choices that contribute to a carbon-neutral society to customers globally,” Sato stated.

The model is expected to expand BEV options in the rapidly growing global SUV market, positioning both Suzuki and Toyota to meet increasing demand for sustainable, electric mobility solutions.
