Tata Steel Unveils Major Expansion Plan with Focus on Backward Integration.

Tata Steel has announced a series of brownfield expansion initiatives and backward integration programmes aimed at bolstering its long-term growth strategy in India.

As part of this push, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lloyd Metals & Energy (LMEL) to jointly establish a greenfield steel plant with a capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum, to be developed in two phases at Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.

The partnership will also focus on iron ore mining, logistics infrastructure such as a slurry pipeline, and pellet production. Tata Steel said the two companies will operate mining concessions and related facilities with the goal of boosting iron ore output and positioning the region as a major new iron ore hub in the country.
