Technip Energies Deems India Business Crucial for Global Projects

Paris-based Technip Energies highlights India's significance as a vital support in securing and executing large-scale projects worldwide. CEO Arnaud Pieton emphasized India's pivotal role in handling some of the company's global projects, such as Qatar's onshore liquefied natural gas facilities at the North Field South Project.

Pieton stated, "If you take a large project that we are doing somewhere else, without India we might not be able to deliver the project." He added that India contributes significantly to securing international work and is a key contributor to the group's overall performance.

Operating in India for around five decades, Technip Energies has a dominant share in global LNG, hydrogen, and ethylene projects. The company is making strides in blue and green hydrogen, sustainable chemistry, and decarbonization solutions. With approximately 4,000 employees in India, the company undertakes projects ranging from $50-450 million, contributing around a tenth to its 2022 global revenue of €6.4 billion.

Pieton clarified that the revenue figure does not accurately represent India's involvement in the company's projects, as a substantial portion is attributed to man-hours. Around a fifth of the company's global work is based in India, and there are plans to further expand the workforce and deepen engagement in the energy sector in the country.

Technip Energies, initially starting as a support office in India 50 years ago, now sees part of its global operations supporting India. Customers are directly approaching India for projects, reflecting the reversal of the company's initial support role. The company collaborates with state-owned oil refiner HPCL and power producer NTPC for green projects and electrolyzer-based hydrogen. Additionally, it is engaged in a detailed engineering project for Reliance Industries' ethylene plant in Jamnagar and is exploring collaborations with other players in the green hydrogen sector. Technip Energies is also working on converting biogas to synthetic gas and subsequently to hydrogen and LNG.
