Tripura Government Signs ₹692 Crore MoU to Enhance Tourism with Ropeway Projects.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the state government has launched a comprehensive initiative to enhance tourism in Tripura, highlighted by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹692 crore for the construction of ropeways. The announcement was made during the World Tourism Day 2024 event, where the contributions of unsung heroes from recent floods were also recognized at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan.

The MoU was signed between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited and National Highways Logistics Management Limited. The planned ropeways will connect key locations including Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills, representing a significant investment aimed at boosting accessibility and tourism appeal.

Chief Minister Saha emphasized the vital role of the tourism sector in driving economic growth and job creation in the state and the nation. He noted that Tripura's natural landscapes, temples, and mosques enhance its tourism potential, with notable religious sites such as the Tripura Sundari Temple and Mangalchandi Temple attracting visitors. Efforts are underway to beautify areas like Matabari in Udaipur, alongside improvements to Narkelkunja and Dumbur.

Dr. Saha also mentioned that the state is enhancing its tourist infrastructure through various central schemes. “Tourism is a significant source of employment and plays a crucial role in economic prosperity and poverty alleviation,” he said, highlighting the construction of 41 modern log huts at various tourist centers across the state.

Under the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 project, infrastructure improvements have been completed at several tourist destinations, including Agartala, Udaipur, and Neermahal. Further developments are planned for Chabimura and the Sonamukhi area of Kailashahar, with approximately ₹180 crore earmarked for these projects.

The event also saw the participation of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Mayor Dipak Majumder, and other key officials, underscoring the government’s commitment to elevating Tripura's tourism landscape.
