UNOPS committed to develop Trincomalee
Colombo: The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has expressed its willingness to assist in the development of irrigation facilities and rehabilitation of roads in Trincomalee district. An assurance to this effect was given by Rainar Fraunfeld, Country Director of UNOPS when he and Mustafa Zam, Cheif Technical Officer met Najeeb A. Majeed, Minister of Co-operatives and Chairman of Trincomalee District Development Committee at a meeting convened by the Minister at the Ministry office in Colombo.
The Country Director’s agreement was in response to the Minister’s request for UNOPS’ assistance for the development of infrastructure facilities in Trincomalee district severely ravaged by the twin disasters brought upon by nature and war.
Minister Majeed also pointed out the need to develop the physical resources including under privileged school buildings in Muttur and Kinnya.
UNOPS representatives presented the Minister with a report on the progress of the three new bridges now being constructed at Irakkanady, Pudavaikkaddu and Yan Oya in Trincoamlee district. M.H.M. Muhseen, the Ministers’ Project Co-0-ordinator also took part in the meeting.
