US co Eaton to unveil global innovation centre at Pune.

American multinational Eaton, which is into power management and reported global revenues of $21 billion in 2015, has announced plans to establish a global innovation centre in Pune, which will house over 2,000 engineers.

The facility, to be developed in two five-storied buildings, will be spread over 390,000 sq ft with a 70,000 sq ft laboratory. The first phase of the centre, which is coming up at Magarpatta City in Pune, will be functional in 15 months, a company official said without disclosing the amount to be invested in the project.

The objective behind establishment of the facility, called Eaton India Innovation Center, is to enhance capabilities of the organisation by leveraging high-end engineering talent and the infrastructure available in the country, the official said.

Sudhakar Potukuchi, vice-president, technology, Eaton Technologies, will head the centre. This will be Eaton’s sixth innovation centre globally following three in the US, and one each in China and the Czech Republic.

An Eaton official said the centre will create a vertically integrated engineering organisation that will deliver complete product design lifecycle management solutions for the company’s global businesses. The incubation centre at a nearby site will go operational from April 7, 2016. The facility will also house the Eaton University for the company’s employees, suppliers and customers.

Ram Ramakrishnan, executive vice-president & chief technology officer, Eaton told The Hindu : “The EIIC will be an integral part of Eaton’s global engineering footprint. This centre will play a key role in new product development. The establishment of this centre is in line with Eaton’s commitment to achieving global technology leadership through its focus on innovation.
