Vadodara: New international terminal will be ready by August.

A new terminal for starting international flights from Harni Airport will be ready for operation by August, a senior official has said.

“Major construction work at new international terminal is done, all final work will be finished by July. We are also expecting approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) by next month. The new international terminal will be functional by August,” the official said .

With capacity to manage as many as 700 passengers (500 domestic and 200 international) in peak hours, constructed in area of 17,500 square metres the new international terminal at Vadodara airport will be operational by August this year. Construction of the new terminal was begun in May 2011 and expected to be completed by next month. Though there will not be a direct flight for the United States (US) or the United Kingdom (UK) as the length of the existing runway is not enough for the big aircraft like Boeing 744 which are used for long distance journey but direct international flights for neighbouring countries will be available.

“The new international terminal building is very unique steel structure we have designed as per the Advance Building Management System, which will have hi-tech security systems, energy saving cooling system, rain water harvesting system, super sensitive fire safety alarm and automatic glass cleaning and 18 spacious check-in counters,” said the official.

More than nine lakh passengers travelled from existing airport at Vadodara in the last financial year. “Currently 1o flights operate everyday from Vadodara, which is not capable to manage more passengers. Though ranking of Vadodara airport is very good in-terms of managing the passengers and flights.” Official said
When asked about the name and inauguration of the terminal, official said they are not sure about the name, but the PMO is constantly monitoring the progress.
