Vanchiyoor road-widening to be completed by March.
The road-widening work along the Vanchiyoor-Uppidamoodu stretch, that falls under the Thiruvananthapuram City Roads Improvement Project, will be completed by March next year, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.
He was speaking during a meeting held recently to sort out local-level issues affecting the implementation of the long-pending scheme.
The Minister said in a press release that the construction began only a month ago since the plan had to be amended following protests from environmental activists regarding the number of trees that could be felled. Box culverts need to be constructed first along the Amayizhanjan Canal and concrete slabs put atop them before the widening work can be carried out. Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd. is carrying out the construction of the culverts, which is nearly complete. Mr. Sivakumar said he would urge the Public Works Minister and Kerala Road Fund Board authorities to hasten work under this project.
