Yogi Adityanath govt pushes for new airport in NCR.

The BJP Government in UP has approached the Centre seeking technical evaluation for an airport in Jewar, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, said recently at a press conference.

The State cabinet cleared the propsal for Jewar airport at a late night meeting recently. Currently, the rules do not allow a new airport to come up within 150 km of an existing airport and the Jewar proposal could get stuck under this clause.

Meanwhile, the Minister said he discussed enhancing the capacity of Delhi airport with stakeholders today. From 67 now, Delhi airport can get to 95 flights an hour in 3 years, he added.

The Delhi airport is capable of handling 50 per cent more traffic in 3 years. The Delhi airport currently handles 60 million passengers a year.

In this regard, a flight operation committee has been set up and this will meet every month to assess the capacity enhancement.
