Afghan Gov gives nod for 19 uplift projects

Kandahar: Afghan government Wednesday approved 19 reconstruction projects for this volatile southern province.

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Minister, Ehsan Zia inked the agreements of 19 reconstruction projects with private constructions companies and regional councils during his visit to the province.

After endorsement of the accords the minister told Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive chat that the projects included construction of levees, roads, health centers, canals, digging of wells and water reservoirs for the different districts of the province.

These projects would be executed in Arghandab, Pajawai, Dand, Takhta Pul, Arghistan and Spin Boldak districts besides the capital city, he added.

Ministry spokesman Ajmal Peman informed two health centers, 12 roads, three water reservoirs, four wells and many others would be constructed, costing more than 72 million afghanis.

With the assistance of PAG, CDA and CRDA the projects are expected to be completed almost in nine months and would benefit 29,000 households in the regions, spokesman said.

Panjawai district regional council member Haji Muhammad Ismail lauded the steps and said the war-affected people of the region needed uplift projects in the province.
