Karnataka Seeks Centre’s Nod for Bengaluru–Mumbai High-Speed Rail Corridor.

Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development M B Patil has urged the Centre to examine the feasibility of a high-speed rail corridor between Bengaluru and Mumbai.

In separate letters dated February 3 to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna, Patil welcomed the Union Budget proposals for high-speed rail corridors connecting Bengaluru with Hyderabad and Chennai.

However, he pointed out that the Karnataka portion of both proposed corridors is limited to around 100 km. As a result, the overall benefits accruing to the people of Karnataka from these projects would be relatively limited, the minister said, making a case for a longer corridor that would provide wider economic and connectivity gains to the State.
