Namma Metro's Purple Line to become fully functional.
The wait is finally over. The much-awaited underground segment of the Namma Metro’s Purple Line, which connects the city’s east and west, will be inaugurated amidst much fanfare on Friday.
The addition to the metro line promises to take commuters from one end to the other in a little over 30 minutes.
The stations at either end will be opened to the public on Saturday at 6 a.m.
On Friday, at 6 p.m., Union Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a host of ministers and officials, will flag off the Namma Metro train at the underground station situated in the nucleus of power – Vidhana Soudha.
“The train will come from the Cubbon Park station and will be flagged off by the dignitaries at the Vidhana Soudha station. Depending on their time and convenience, they will travel either up to Magadi Road or to Mysore Road,” said U.A. Vasanth Rao, spokesperson of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.
With the inauguration of the east-west corridor, the two reaches of Namma Metro – Baiyappanhalli to M.G. Road and Magadi Road to Mysore Road – are expected to realise full potential, while also helping commuters cut travel time by half to reach the other end of the city.
