Orient Cement Commissions Second Phase of Waste Heat Recovery System

Orient Cement Limited has successfully commissioned the second phase of its Waste Heat Recovery System ("WHRS") at the Chittapur Integrated Cement Plant. The new system is designed to capture and utilize waste heat generated from the pyroprocessing system to generate electricity, enhancing the plant's energy efficiency.

The latest phase includes the successful commissioning of the Preheater Boiler, complementing the already operational Air Quenching Cooler (AQC) Boiler, Turbine, and Air Cooled Condenser. With the completion of this second phase, the overall gross power generation capacity of the WHRS has increased to 10.1 MW.

The WHRS technology enables the plant to convert excess heat from the cement manufacturing process into energy, reducing the plant's reliance on external power sources. This advancement underscores Orient Cement's commitment to sustainable practices and energy efficiency, contributing to a lower carbon footprint and reduced operational costs.

The successful implementation of the second phase of the WHRS at Chittapur not only boosts the energy efficiency of the plant but also aligns with Orient Cement's broader strategy to adopt environmentally friendly technologies in its operations. This achievement is a significant step in the company's journey towards sustainable cement manufacturing, marking progress in its continuous efforts to reduce waste and improve energy utilization.
