"Prime Minister Dedicates Halwara Civil Terminal to Nation, Renames Adampur Airport in Honor of Guru Ravidas"
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has renamed Adampur Airport in Punjab as Shri Guru Ravidass Maharaj Ji Airport on the occasion of Sant Ravidas Jayanti, marking the 649th birth anniversary of the revered saint. The move was hailed by Modi as a matter of “immense honour and pride” and a fitting tribute to Guru Ravidas’s teachings of equality, compassion, and service.
The prime minister arrived at Adampur Airport from Delhi at around 3.45 pm, shortly after the Union Budget presentation in Parliament. Following the renaming ceremony, he visited Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar to pay homage to the saint.
Earlier in the day, Modi virtually inaugurated the terminal building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana, emphasizing the development as a key step for improving the state’s aviation infrastructure. Addressing the occasion, he said enhanced air connectivity would support economic growth in Ludhiana and its surrounding industrial and commercial hubs.
The civil terminal at Halwara, developed on the Indian Air Force base in Raikot, is a joint venture between the Punjab government and the Airports Authority of India, with a project cost of ₹54.67 crore. Officials said the terminal is expected to significantly boost tourism, healthcare, education, and industrial activity, contributing to broader socio-economic development in the state.
The Halwara airport’s civil enclave features a longer runway capable of handling larger aircraft, overcoming earlier limitations of the Ludhiana facility and opening the region to expanded air services.
The event in Ludhiana was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu.
