Roads to be renovated in Ratnapura

Colombo: Roads destroyed during the recent floods in the Ratnapura district will be renovated and a drinking water supply project will be initiated in the district at a cost of Rs. 15 million.

Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Senaviratne inaugurated the renovation work on the roads of the project funded by the Disaster Management Ministry.
Minister Senaviratne speaking at the inauguration ceremony said more than 80 per cent of infrastructure development work in the area has been completed .

He said special projects will be mooted in Ratnapura town and surroundings to mitigate floods in the district jointly with the Disaster Management Ministry.

An urban construction plan has been prepared for this purpose. Active public involvement is also crucial in the disaster mitigation process and environment protection he said..

Former Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Member Ranjith Bandara and several politicians of the area were also present.
