₹110.58-crore research proposals submitted by MKU in seven months: VC.

Research project proposals to the tune of ₹110.58 crore had been submitted by different departments in Madurai Kamaraj University to various funding agencies in the past seven months, Vice-Chancellor P.P. Chellathurai said in his report to the Senate, which met on Friday.

He also pointed out that the university departments had already received a funding of ₹15.88 crore based on these proposals.

Stating that improving the research work had now become one of the top priorities of the university, Mr. Chellathurai later told the media that a special team had been formed to scrutinise and enhance all the proposals sent to funding agencies to ensure that the likelihood of the proposals getting approved was high.

He also said that there was an increasing enthusiasm among the faculty members to apply for research grants. The proposals sent for ₹110.58 crore were significant, considering the short period in which they were sent.

Resolutions, which were taken up before the Academic Council meeting two weeks ago, were also passed by the Senate on Friday, which included a resolution requesting Syndicate to allow Ph.D holders from other institutions to apply for D. Litt and D. Sci degrees, and another resolution requesting the Syndicate to take efforts for filling up the staff vacancies.

A resolution demanding the re-implementation of University Stipendiary Research Fellowship (USRF) to assist 50 scholars pursuing Ph. D in MKU was also passed.

Importantly, the adoption of the new rules of the Tamil Nadu government regarding the qualification of Vice-Chancellor and the constitution of V-C Search Committee, which had already been approved the Syndicate, were reported to the Senate.
