Ashok Leyland, Telangana ink MoU for ₹ 500 cr body building facility.
Ashok Leyland Limited has entered into an agreement with Telangana Government outlining plans for setting up a body building unit which will entail an outlay of ₹500 crore.
The commercial vehicles major indicated that the unit will be established in phases and have the potential to employ about 1000 people directly and hundreds others indirectly as the company will invest about ₹ 500 crore, according to a statement from Chief Minister's Office.
A memorandum of understanding was inked and exchanged between Santhi Kumari, Additional Principal Secretary TS Government and Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland Limited, in the presence of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao..
Speaking after the memorandum exchange, the Chief Minister said the State Government would extend all necessary support to see that the project comes up as per plans extending various facilities as per the innovative State Industrial policy.
He also mentioned that the vehicles required within Telengana could be sourced from manufacturers within the State.
The Chief Minister further suggested that the State transport department could take some suggestions from ALL on improving public transport.
With growing urban population, he felt there was a need to improve the public transport system. One of the focus areas for Telangana will be to improve public transport and provide efficient transport for and connectivity to various urban nodes in the State.
While the location of the proposed unit is yet to be finalised, the project will get various benefits as per the TS i-Pass policy and all necessary clearances will be issued within 15 days.
Ashok Leyland is a leading player in the country's commercial vehicle space supplying buses to road transport corporations facilitating urban transport.
