Ballari Road skywalk awaits Union govt. nod.

The pedestrian skywalk on the busy Ballari Road, near Hebbal flyover, may be delayed further, as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is awaiting clearance from the Centre for taking a portion of defence land.

The demand for a skywalk had come from a large number of pedestrians following the death of two persons, including a college student, who were run over by a speeding water tanker.

Three fatal accidents have been reported in the last eight months alone on the road that leads to Kempegowda International Airport.

While Columbia Asia Hospital has volunteered to construct the skywalk, the project has been pending due to a delay in acquiring defence land, BBMP sources said, adding that the civic body, the hospital and National Highways Authority of India are keen on the project.

'It is a long process when army land is involved. We cannot pay for the land but will have to re-allot them land elsewhere. The BBMP has made an application for re-allotment of land and are awaiting clearance from the Central government.'
