Besix wins $218mn Phase III Dubai Canal contract.
Belhasa Six Construct has been awarded a contract to build Phase III of the Dubai Water Canal project by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).
The RTA's chairman Mattar Al Tayer said the package of works includes 'drilling the water canal, constructing sides of the Canal, constructing three footbridges linking the two banks of the Canal, and constructing four marine transit stations to boost the role of marine transport.'
He added that he expected marine transport to grow in popularity once the Jumeirah 2 islands and a number of islands at The World development were completed, and were expected to eventually provide around six million journeys a year.
The Phase III contract, which could start on site this month, brings the total budget for the project to over $480mn (AED1.77bn). All works are expected to complete in September 2016.
