Bharat Forge to set up ₹500-cr defence facility.

Bharat Forge of the Kalyani Group will be investing about ₹500 crore in setting up a defence systems facility in association with a joint venture partner.

This was disclosed by Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Department of Industries, Government of Telangana, at a press conference to announce the details the second defence and aero supply India conference to be held here between November 30 and December 2.

“The company is likely to announce the project early next year.

“We are able to tell because of the land allotment of about 40 acres.

“Further details cannot be shared at the moment,’’ the official said.

New investments

The State Government is expecting that Hyderabad will have four aero space parks in the next four years, including the one at Adibhatla.

“In the last one year, the new investment commitments in defence and aero space sector are to the tune of ₹1,000 crore, including Bharat Forge’s proposed project,’’ he said.

Another company, Voith India was also in the process of shifting its base from Chennai to Hyderabad, he added.

Aviation academy

Efforts are also on to set up an aviation academy to develop a skill base in aircraft maintenance possibly in association with France-based Bordeaux Metropole, he said.

The Government has an aviation academy now, but it is only for training pilots.

Global conclave

The three-day global aviation conclave will highlight the ‘friendly’ industrial policy of the State Government with a focus on next generation technology, innovation and skill development.
